[Penny's visit with Ruby had been a little more rushed than usual, given the awkwardness from earlier in the day. But she'd still made sure that her friend's injuries weren't anything serious, and dropped off some ice and a small packet of painkillers.]

[And now it was time to do the same for -another friend?- Ruby's opponent, anyway. She raised a hand, bag of ice held in the other, and knocked.]

Yang? It's Penny, are you in?

Come in, Penny. It's open! [ Yang is just laying on her bed face-down, idly flipping through some magazines. Between being banged up and full of dinner she hasn't been too motivated to get up and do anything else. It's going to be bedtime soon anyway but she can spare a smile for her friend when she's inside. ]

Hey, what's up?

Salutations! I just wanted to make sure you weren't hurt too badly.

[Holding up the bag of ice in demonstration.]

I know it's a big adjustment not being- not having your aura, I mean.

[Or, say, a solid metal endoskeleton.]

...Was it a good match? Ruby said she won.

[Maybe. Just a little prouder of her friend than was strictly tactful when talking to the loser of said fight.]

[ If it's pride that Penny's worried about, she won't have to be. Yang has plenty of that to spare for her sister, too, despite her own painful loss. She chuckled and waved her hand. ] I appreciate that, I do, but it's nothing that won't heal.

[ Though one look at her bandaged wrist and she deflated sheepishly. ] ...I guess I did push my limits a bit. [ Another grin. ] Ruby got me, and how!

[She has to laugh a little at that.]

That's good to hear! Though I've heard there's not much that won't eventually heal, here. Just not... not something I think would be a good idea to test.

[She shakes out a small hotel hand-towel she's been carrying and wraps it around the ice bag, offering the improvised cold-press to Yang.]

I bet if you asked her she'd say she learned a lot of it from you. She's talked about what a great fighter you are.

Yeah, you're right. I'm not in a hurry to get a concussion or break any bones. [ Though that smack to her ribcage nearly accomplished one of those, she managed to roll with it enough to minimize the damage. It's a good place for that icepack to go, though, accompanied by a sharp intake of breath and then a short laugh. ]

We do train together a lot, obviously, but no. It wouldn't be true. Ruby gets almost all of her skill from our Uncle Qrow. Heh. Has she talked your ear off about him, yet?

Oh, she has! He's the one that helped her make Crescent Rose, right?

[Which is almost as important as any of the actual PEOPLE Ruby's talked about, she's gathered.]

She said he's one of the reasons she wanted to become a Huntress, too.

[ Yang grinned. ] Yeah, she was always hanging onto him whenever he'd visit with new stories from his adventures. Personally, I think dad could have gone without us picking up the trade but Qrow backed us up.

[ She cleared her throat and did her best to imitate him in a low, scratchy tone, but it's hard to echo that special drunken brogue of his. ] "C'mon, Tai, just let them train. It's in their blood."

Heh. Or something like that.

[Qrow sounds shorter than she would've imagined, for some reason.]

Well, I'm glad he did! If not, I wouldn't have met any of you. ...Well, maybe Weiss, I guess?

['Met' being the key word. Becoming friends with any of them without Ruby's presence seemed... less than likely, in hindsight.]

[And. Thinking for a second.]

...Yang? Would you say we're friends?

[ An effort was made. ]

Haha, I know, right? I don't know where I'd be either. [ That's not the kind of life-altering decision Yang wants to look back on, honestly. She'd rather focus on the other question. ]

Hmmm sure! Aren't we all friends, now? [ Certainly more now than back home. Yes, she was predominantly Ruby's friend, but the entire traveling group was bonding left and right, and though the two of them hadn't done much in the way of sitting down and talking one-on-one Yang could still consider her answer as truthful enough. It was more than just being stuck in the same boat together. ]

You think so? I mean, I'd hoped so, but I guess friendship is a lot more complicated than I'd thought.

[Unless your name is Dipper and you mysteriously just "know" things without actually being told. Who does that?]

But- thank you.

[She leans down and gives Yang a quick peck on top of the head.]

You're all great friends, I really am grateful to have met you.

[And realizing what just happened in three, two...]

[Penny turns bright red for the second time that day, taking a step back and covering her face.]

OH MY GOSH, I'M SO SORRY- I didn't mean to-

[ For an instant, Yang is all about dopey smiles and looking rather satisfied with herself and the predicament.

Until Penny ends up displaying her embarrassment. Then it's her turn to react to that gesture, as if nothing was wrong with it until the other girl had realized it too. ]

P-Penny! ... Are you feeling ... okay...?

Sorry! Sorry.

[Just. Bright redness. This is never ending.]

I- think so?

[It keeps happening.]

I'm sorry. I think- sometimes weird things happen on Fridays, and-

[Slightly muffled, do to an attempt at hiding in her hands.]

...you're not mad, are you?

[ She chuckled and waved her had. ] No. No, of course not! Why would I be?

[ Well there were plenty of reasons, but: ] You're right about today. I've... had this happen to me a few times already. [ She quirked up one corner of her mouth. ] It could've been more embarrassing. Believe me.

Okay. Okay. That's- I didn't want you to think I was trying to-

[Friends or not, that's a step or two too intimate for their relationship, is what she's trying to say.]

It's not something just friends do. Usually. Sorry.

[And gingerly sitting down on the edge of the bed, well out of range for any further smoochings.]

It. Um. Happened to me earlier too. ...I don't think I want to talk about it.

[Belated Valentine's shenanigans or not, there is no good way to say "I smooched your baby sister and kind of liked it."]

Huh, well... I kissed Ruby on the head this morning. It's not that unusual? [ Maybe for their age, but not for their closeness. Really, Penny was freaking out for nothing. ]

I mean it's not like — yeah, okay, I don't think I want to talk about that either. [ More like she didn't want Weiss to know she had mentioned the other Thing that happened. ]

[YES, ABSOLUTELY NOTHING HAHAHA]

You're sisters, though. That's common for family, isn't it?

I mean, when I was talking to Ruby-

[And turning a little pinker for some reason.]

Um. I mean, she didn't even mention it.

Psssh, of course she wouldn't mention it. It's embarrassing for her. [ Yang seems more amused than put off by that. ] I mean it's been forever since I did that seriously.

[ Did she notice the change in Penny's complexion? ] Are you going to want this ice pack for a minute? [ Yep, she did. ]

What? No! I'm fine- I (hic.) It's just- today. With everything.

[Totally unsuspicious recovery.]

...was she all right, when you talked? I mean, with- ...the stuff that's happening. Today. I mean I don't want to pry, but-

Okay... [ Yang smiled, in a way that was at odds with how much she actually believed Penny. Fine, she'll play along. She didn't want to pry, either. ]

Huh, you mean Ruby? Yeah, she was good! We went to dinner with Jade and Dave, and besides being sore, she was as energetic as ever. [ That ball pit ended up being the scene of their rematch, but there's no need to point it out. ]

[Deception successful. Nobody suspects a thing.]

[And she grins a little at the change of topic.]

Having you around helps. I mean, I know we're not that close but ... having someone familiar as a go-between seems to be working out for everyone. [ And Yang couldn't be happier about that, considering the huge mood boost that everyone needed. ]

You really think I've helped?

[And glowing a bit pink for entirely different reasons now.]

I mean, I don't think I've really been trying to do anything special.

Whether you meant it or not, you helped make the connection. So... thanks! [ Smiling. ] Without that, who knows how long it would have taken to make new friends, with people kind of all over the place.

[ She looked over at her PokeGear on her nightstand. ] I'll need to figure out how to make better use of that thing. I'm so used to our scrolls but... it's handy.
